The Liberia National Red Cross Society (LNRCS) is urging the international community to increase focus and action on the escalating humanitarian needs within Liberia.
This year’s theme, “Act for Humanity,” aligns with the Red Cross’s core mission and values.
The Secretary General, Gregory T. Blamoh, issued a press statement emphasizing the urgent need for coordinated efforts to alleviate the suffering of those recently impacted by severe flooding in Monrovia and surrounding areas.
“The needs on the ground are devastating and require urgent attention. It is time to act quickly to bring relief to those affected by the recent flood,” Mr. Blamoh stated.
Meanwhile, the LNRCS, with support from international partners including the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and the European Union in Liberia, will distribute cash assistance to over 1,500 families, benefiting approximately 13,100 individuals in Montserrado, Grand Cape, and Bong Counties.
While acknowledging the significance of this support, Mr. Blamoh emphasized that many more individuals remain in need and encouraged the public to use World Humanitarian Day as a chance to offer additional help.
“This is a moment for us all to come together and ‘Act for Humanity,'” he urged.
In alignment with the theme, the LNRCS will extend support to over 600 vulnerable individuals, including orphans, people with disabilities, and female inmates in Montserrado, Bong, Margibi, and Grand Bassa Counties.
This aid will include essential items such as food, hygiene products, and other non-food necessities.
World Humanitarian Day, observed on August 19, is dedicated to honoring humanitarian workers and advocating for humanitarian causes, particularly in regions facing significant challenges.
Liberia, like many other countries, has vulnerable populations who often lack access to critical resources and support and the LNRCS remains committed to its humanitarian mission, striving to alleviate suffering and support communities in need.
The organization continues to uphold humanitarian principles, working to enhance the well-being of individuals and engaging the public in humanitarian efforts.
