The Liberia National Bar Association (LNBA) has announced that it will hold its Law Day consistent with its constitution beginning Friday, May 5, at the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Ministerial Complex in Congo Town at 10 A.M.
National Law Day is celebrated every year in May during which lawyers, judges and magistrates and other law actors assemble to interact with Justices of the Supreme Court of Liberia.
The celebration will begin with a parade of all lawyers from the SOS Clinic to the Ministerial Complex and the 2023 celebration will be held under the theme, “Episodes of Electoral Violence and Prospects for Constitutional Democracy in Liberia.”
According to LNBA’s National Secretary General, Bornor M. Varmah, the Law Day is to celebrate the rule of law in the society and cultivate a deeper understanding of the legal profession.
SG Varmah noted that annual Law Day is set aside to honor the achievements in the legal profession and it provides an opportunity to understand how law and the legal process protect the liberty, strives to achieve justice and contribute to the freedoms that they share.
“The celebration of Law Day around the world dates back to 1957 when the president of the American Bar Association Charles Rhyne, envisioned a special day for celebrating the American legal system,” he explained.
The LNBA encourages all members of the Bar, including the Chief Justice and Associate Justices , Judges of Courts of records, counselors and attorneys-at-law, magistrates and law students to be in attendance in consistent with the LNBA’s Constitution.
