LLA Conducts Land Use Training In Maryland

The Liberia Land Authority (LLA) through the Land Use and Management Department, with support from the Inclusive Land Administration and Management Project (ILAMP) implemented by Lamtmateriet on Monday, 3 to Tuesday, 4 April 2023, conducts two-day regional training workshop in Harper, Maryland County under the Theme: “Capacity Building at The National, Regional and Local levels.”
The training title: “Advancing Sustainable Urbanism and Rural Development through Land Use Planning and Management,” brings together stakeholders from various sector involved in urban and rural planning activities including City Mayors, and Superintendents from Grand Gedeh, Rivergee, Sinoe, Grand Kru and Maryland in the southeastern region of the country.
Others were the Customary Land Development and Management Committees (CLDMCs), members of the Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) Liberia, Land Authority County Land Offices (CLOs) and Land Use and Management headquarters staff.
The workshop is intended to educate participants on four (4) legal instruments that were developed by the LLA.
These include: A) The National Land Use and Management Policy, B) Urban Zoning of (land uses) regulations, C) The Participatory Land Use Planning Guidelines, and D) The Framework for Rural Land Use regulations.
The above-mentioned instruments will be used to regulate the location and uses of land, the nature and the extend of the uses of land in accordance with a comprehensive plan for the purpose of promoting health, safety, sustainability and general wellbeing of the citizens of the Republic of Liberia.
Harper City’s Lord Mayor, Ellen Blessing Howe, in her welcome remark thanked LLA and its partners for providing them (locals) the opportunity to gain the needed public education or awareness on the important and use of land.
She therefore admonished the participants drawn from both the private and public sectors to take advantage of the knowledge sharing exercise for the betterment of their counties in particular and the country (Liberia) in general for tomorrow.
LLA Commissioner for Land Use and Management Department, Ellen O. Pratt, did the overview of the training workshop from the authority point of view.
