Liberia’s two representatives in this year’s Confederation of African Football (CAF) leagues Liberia Shipping and Corporate Registry (LISCR) known as the Shipping Boys, and Watanga Football Club were in a draw and lost results during their first legs.
Watanga was beaten 3-0 by Rivers United in Port Harcourt on Sunday, Nigeria, while visiting Ivorian side SC Gengoa drew 0-0 with LISCR in Monrovia.
Sunday was LISCR’s first international game and has left Interim Coach, Christopher Wreh and supporters with the impression of the team doing better in the return leg which comes on this weekend in Ivory Coast.
In a post-match interview, Interim Coach Christopher Wreh said LISCR under his watch were at what he considered as their best to play and sharing points with a team they knew a little about in their very first encounter.
The coach alluded that a scoreless draw came about by wingers improvised due to called-up of some key players of LISCR to the National U-20 team as part of the contingent that took part recently in the West Africa Football Union (WAFU) Zone “A” Competition held in Mauritania.
“Since we know our opponent now, we are going to Ivory Coast to get victory that will make Liberia proud. We never knew them and my team did a very great job in as much as we needed a win,” Coach Wreh said.
For Watanga which won the local league of the Liberia Football Association (LFA) last season and was whipped by the Nigerians 3-0 will have to perform miracles if they are to progress to the next stage of the tournament.
During the first leg in Nigeria, Watanga lost hope after Goalkeeper Derrick Julu noticed his defence was being used by the home side to score 3 times during early stages of the match.
