LICPA Honors Visiting Nigerian Accountants

By Bill W. Cooper
The Liberian Institute of Certified Public Accountants (LICPA) yesterday gowned two members of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) for their contribution towards the organization during their stay in the country.
Those gowned included Haruna N. Yahaya, a member of the Governing Council and John Evbodaghe from ICAN who has been in the country since Sunday February 9, to assist the LICPA to conduct a quality review of other accountant firms operating in the country.
Presenting the gowns to the honorees, the LICPA president, Victor S. Tanwone lauded the two members for their visit and commended them for their contributions in the overview process of the accountant firms.
The LICPA president noted that his counterparts’ visit came at the time when it was needed the most, emphasizing that that the overview process had helped ease the burden of LICPA’s work in knowing those accountant firms that render services in regards to international standard.
The LICPA boss further disclosed plan of publishing the list of licensed and unlicensed accountants firms in order to encourage others to be in full compliance for the growth of the organization and promised the LICPA’s fullest support.
Honoree Yahaya lauded the leadership of the LICP for their commitment in ensuring the growth of the organization, stressing that the quality review of the LICPA is very important as it requires each firm to ensure that quality services are provided to clients in line with international best practices.
According to Mr. Yahaya, one of the important things about the quality review is that, it helps provide genuine recommendations to various accountant firms for their improvement in providing quality services to the public for economic growth.
He indicated that the quality review process is not to punish any accountant firms who are not in compliant but to help improve them in order to be able to provide quality services to customers for a better economic growth in the country.
Accountant Yahaya used the ceremony to recommend to the national government to entrust its accountant work to accountants firms in order to help improve the country’s economy.
“During our stay in the country, we also observed in various schools we visited that there is no passion from students wanting to be senior accountants in the country,” the visiting accountant observed.
LICPA is the national Professional Accounting Organization (PAO) of Liberia which originally came into being in 1933 as the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Liberia Limited under the authority of an Act of the National Legislature.
