President Joseph Boakai has by Proclamation declared Monday, December 9, 2024 as “International Anti-Corruption Day” to be celebrated on Friday, December 6, 2024, throughout the territorial confines of the Republic as “Working Holiday.”
According to a Foreign Ministry release, this year marks the 21st Commemoration of the International Anti-Corruption Day in Liberia, and will be celebrated under the National theme: “Uniting with Youth against Corruption: Shaping tomorrow’s Integrity”.
According to the Presidential proclamation, the significance of the observance of the International Anti-Corruption Day, is to raise awareness about corruption and promote anti-corruption Day campaign Activities; including the role of the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAD), in combating and preventing it.
The proclamation states that, the Government of Liberia established the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission through an Act of the Legislature and further developed a policy Framework and a comprehensive strategy that outlines the preventive, educational and enforcement measures to combat corruption throughout Liberia.
The proclamation further stated that corruption in both the public and private sector of a nation undermines the national and international framework of good governance which seeks to promote economic development.
The proclamation indicated that this year’s event will kick-off with a parade beginning at 8:0’clock ante meridian at the Vamoma House, followed by an indoor program at the Monrovia City Hall, commencing at 10: AM.
The Proclamation therefore calls upon all Government Ministries, agencies, local and international organizations, United Nations Organs in Liberia, and the general public to join the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission, in collaboration with Civil Society organizations and the National Integrity Forum, to plan and implement appropriate programs befitting the occasion.
