The Liberia Women’s Senior National Football Team is set to make a strong comeback as they prepare for the upcoming West African Football Union (WAFU) Tournament, scheduled to take place from May 18 to 31, 2025, in Mauritania. After a disappointing miss in the qualification for the Female African Cup of Nations, the tournament presents a crucial opportunity for the team to regain momentum and sharpen their skills.
The national team, according to some top sources, will begin training in April under the guidance of head coach Selam Zeray, who is focusing on developing the players’ abilities and fostering team cohesion. Fans eagerly await the team’s performance, hopeful that this regional competition will see a resurgence of their women’s football program.
Adding to the excitement, several rising stars are on their heels boosting individual performances for their respective clubs in the women league to attract the attention of the Ethiopian gaffer who is closely following the women football programs of Liberia.
At a very promising young age, many of the women athletes fast growing in the competition are committed to defending the national colors of the country if called up by the technical team of the Lone Star for the upcoming regional tourney. They are key players to watch from their individual clubs in order to match their domestic performances with the required guidelines to make it at the level of the women national team.
According to sources in the corridors of women football, many of the players under the scope of coach Selam Zeray lenses for consideration for the pending competition are players that have been under her football programs some of whom participated in her different international friendlies conducted in Sierra Leone when she just took over the team.
However, it is reported that Blessing Musu Kamara, a talented midfielder from Ravia Angels, has earned a call-up to the national team as well. Kamara has been a standout performer in the ongoing LFA Women’s League, scoring 9 goals and helping her team secure a 5th-place on the league table. Her impressive dribbling skills and powerful shots have made her one of the most feared players in the league, and her national team call-up is a well-deserved recognition of her hard work and talent.
Another notable player receiving attention is Anita Davis, the highly regarded goalkeeper for Determine Girls. Head coach Selam Zeray is considering Davis for a call-up to the senior national team after her remarkable performances this season. Known for her exceptional shot-stopping ability and quick reflexes, Davis played a crucial role in her team’s victory over Shaita Angels in a tense penalty shootout during the Orange Cup on March 1, 2025. Her composure under pressure and crucial penalty saves helped Determine Girls secure a spot in the semi-finals.
Both Kamara and Davis are expected to make a significant impact on the national team, with fans eagerly anticipating their contributions to Liberia’s campaign in the WAFU Tournament.
