The Assistant Minister for International Organizations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Karishma Pelham-Raad s leading a Liberian delegation currently attending the 34th International Conference of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent (IRC) Conference.
The conference, held in Geneva, brought together leaders and experts from around the world to discuss pressing humanitarian issues impacting millions.
The Liberian delegation has joined peers from other countries in an event that aims to bolster the power of international humanitarian law and promote neutral, impartial, and independent humanitarian action amid growing global crises.
The conference, organized by the IRC in partnership with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), provides a pivotal platform to discuss key global challenges and strategize on ways to support vulnerable populations worldwide.
This year’s conference theme, “Together for Humanity,” underscores the urgency for cooperative responses in areas such as climate change, armed conflicts, and disaster resilience.
Representing Liberia on the world stage, Assistant Minister Pelham-Raad, delivered a powerful speech during the conference’s opening ceremony.
In her statement, she emphasized Liberia’s unwavering commitment to international humanitarian cooperation and the need for collaborative efforts to address critical issues.
“Liberia stands firm in our belief that humanitarian action transcends borders,” she stated, highlighting Liberia’s dedication to alleviating human suffering and protecting those affected by conflict and natural disasters. “We are here as a nation committed to partnerships that strengthen humanitarian law, and ultimately, protect lives.”
Mr. Clarke and Mr. Blamoh, both key figures in the Liberian Red Cross, echoed the Assistant Minister’s message, affirming the organization’s role in responding to crises within Liberia and aiding in resilience-building efforts across the country.
Mr. Tate, as the head of Liberia’s Permanent Mission in Geneva, expressed that Liberia’s presence at the conference underscores its role as an active contributor to international humanitarian goals, not merely as a recipient but as a proactive partner.
