Liberia Celebrates World Post Day In Bong

The government through the Ministry of Post & Telecommunications (MoPT), has colorfully celebrated World Post Day in Gbarnga, Bong County under the theme: “150 Years of Enabling Communication and Empowering People Across Nations.”
Reading the proclamation issued by President Boakai, the Director for Internal Audit at the Ministry of Post & Telecommunications, Kadiatu Daillo, said the President’s proclamation aligns with the Universal Postal Union (UPU), which was founded in 1874 to form a single postal Territory of countries for the reciprocal exchange of letters and postal items and to secure the organization and improve postal services worldwide.
Liberia, being a member of the Universal Postal Union, is duty-bound to support and uphold all rules and procedures laid down by this World Body.
She further acknowledged President Boakai’s proclamation that in keeping with the global mission of the Universal Postal Union, postal customers in every country are to be treated with equal courtesy and respect, and rules and procedures are provided that make it easier for national and international customers and users of the postal services.
The Proclamation also declares that to support the Plan of Action of the Universal Postal Union in improving postal services to customers, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, the Agency charged with the responsibility of postal services, joins member countries of the Universal Postal Union on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, to celebrate World Post Day.
President Boakai, in his proclamation, calls upon the relevant ministries and agencies of the Government, as well as national and international organizations concerned, to join and cooperate with the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications in executing appropriate programs to make the observance of the day meaningful.
Furthermore, reading the message of the Director General of the Universal Postal Union (UPU), Paul W. Thomas, Director General of Posts at the Ministry of Post &Telecommunications, said the Universal Postal Union was founded to create a unified postal system worldwide.
He said member countries work in concert to buttress the UPU’s goal.
According to Thomas, the UPU has over the years brought Countries together to support global communication, cultural exchange, and access to essential services adding, “Our goal is in alignment with this postal sector phenomenon.”
He emphasized that World Post Day was set aside to create awareness of postal services across the world.
The Postal Director further revealed that the day is to ensure sustainable postal services, enhance quality postal service delivery, make urban and rural postal services viable, decentralize postal services, and make countries postal services efficient in every aspect.
Also remaking at the ceremony on behalf of the Minister of Post Master General of Liberia, Sekou Kromah, the Deputy Minister for Administration at the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications, Augustine Karpeh, said the celebration of the day was intended to create more awareness about the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications in Liberia.
He further lauded the government of President Joseph Boakai for the generous support this government continues to render the entity in the face of competing national priorities.
Deputy Minister Karpeh revealed further that the Ministry is planning to create massive awareness and digitalization regarding the activities of the Liberia Post and Telecommunications.
Rive Gee County Senator Francis Dopoe admonished the management of the Ministry of Post & Telecommunications to create more awareness to allow citizens access to postal services in Liberia.
He emphasized that the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications is a fundamental institution that will help improve communication, drive commerce, and foster national unity, something he believes would embrace global technology and attract investors to invest in the Country’s development and economics.
“We must ensure that Liberia postal services begin a pail of development, innovative process in our Country as we celebrate the world post day. Let us reaffirm modernizing postal services at the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications in Liberia,” Senator Dopoe, added.
