LERC Extends Deadline For LEC’s Tariff Proposal Submission

The Liberia Electricity Regulatory Commission (LERC) has issued several directives to the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) setting January 31, 2025 as the deadline for the resubmission of a new Tariff Application proposal to the Commission.
This decision follows a request from the Interim Management Team (IMT) of LEC to withdraw the Corporation’s tariff application that was filed in October 2024.
On December 11, 2024, LEC informed the Commission that the tariff submission proposal coincided with transition within the Corporation and its previous management was replaced by the IMT that is unfamiliar with the Tariff Application previously submitted to the Commission and was therefore requesting additional time to properly review and revise the tariff application.
As a result, the LERC has extended the current tariff period, initially set to end on December 31, 2024, by three months, extending it to March 31, 2025.
During this period, there will be no new tariffs announced for LEC’s operational areas in Montserrado, Margibi, Grand Cape, and Bomi Counties.
Chairman of the Board of Commissioners (BoC) of LERC, Claude J. Katta, emphasized to the Interim Management Team the importance of adhering to the new deadline reiterating that the Commission is committed to ensuring transparency throughout the tariff-setting process.
The Commission will hold several stakeholder engagements and outreach initiatives before the final tariff decision is reached noting, “The tariff application process is vital for the effective regulation of the electricity sector in Liberia. The Commission will continue to engage the public to ensure a fair and transparent process that aligns with the interests of all stakeholders.”
The current tariffs for the various customer categories are; Social Customers – US$0.15 per Kilowatt-hour (no fixed charge); Prepaid Residential Customers tariff is set at US$0.24 per Kilowatt-hour with a monthly fixed charge of $2.48.; Postpaid Residential Customers tariff is set at US$0.24 per Kilowatt-hour and monthly fixed charge of $4.47; Prepaid Non-residential Customers tariff is set at US$0.22 per Kilowatt-hour and monthly fixed charge of US$10; Postpaid Commercial Customers tariff is set at US$0.22 per Kilowatt-hour and monthly fixed charge of US$12 and the Medium Voltage Customers tariff is set at US$0.19 per Kilowatt-hour and monthly fixed charge of US$50.
