The leadership of the Legislative Press Pool of Liberia has appointed a seven-member vetting committee to select four qualified individuals to benefit from a scholarship opportunity given to the group of journalists.
Those appointed are; Mr. Julius K. Kanubah; a founding president of LEGISPOL, Chairperson; Mrs. Winnie Saywah-Jimmy, Vice president, Female Journalists Association, Co-Chair; Mr. Robert Haynes, Director of Press, House of Representatives, secretary General and Mr. Akoi Baysah, Assistance Secretary, Press Union of Liberia as member on the committee.
Others include; Mr. Willie Tokpah, president, Reporters’ Association, member, Ms. Agnes Tarr, Secretary General LEGISPOL, member and Mr. Henry Karmo, president of LEGISPOL as Ex-official.
It can be recalled, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Bhofal Chambers, during a visit to the offices of the Press Corp, made a commitment to sponsor four members of the institution to acquire under graduate education at any local university in Liberia.
In a release LEGISPOL said the leadership appointment of the committee members was done randomly taking into consideration the PUL, RAL, FeJAL, former and current officials of the LEGISPOL.
The leadership assured that in as much as it will assist in drafting the guidelines, it will have no say in the selection of qualify candidates adding that all current officials on the committee are non-voting members.
However, the president who is an ex-official could break a tie vote if there is any.
The leadership at the same time encourages its members to take advantage of such opportunity in advancing their educational professions.
The LEGISPOL is a body of journalists from independent media institutions with over forty members assigned by their various institution, and accredited by the press bureau of both houses to cover the legislature on a daily basis.
Meanwhile, time and date for application will be announced following the first meeting of the committee.
