President Joseph Boakai’s passionate appeal to Liberians in the Diaspora is that they become key drivers of the country’s development.
Over the weekend, addressing a vibrant audience after the Liberia Diaspora Return 2024, held at the Executive Mansion, President Boakai called for bold thinking and decisive actions to rebuild the nation.
According to President Boakai, the moment has arrived for Liberians to adopt a new mindset; one that challenges old ways of thinking and embraces innovation and creativity.
He emphasized the need for boldness in addressing the nation’s challenges and called for active participation in rebuilding.
He urged Liberians at home and abroad to move beyond complacency, take ownership of the country’s future, and work collaboratively toward a prosperous and united Liberia.
“This is not the time for hesitation,” he stressed. “It is the time for courage, action, and unwavering commitment to the progress of our nation,” he added.
President Boakai praised the Diaspora Liberians for their unwavering support and outlined critical areas for their involvement in the country’s progress.
“The event was marked by reflections on the enduring bond between Liberia and its citizens abroad,” he stated.
President Boakai called on Liberians abroad to focus on the legacy they are creating for the next generation.
“We owe it to them to ensure that they live in a country where opportunities abound,” he said, urging collective efforts to shape a brighter future for Liberia’s youth.
He assured them of a secure and conducive environment for investment; highlighting improvements in infrastructure and security.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the rule of law, promising that contributions from the Diaspora would be safeguarded and used to promote stability and economic growth.
While acknowledging the significant contributions of remittances, which he described as a lifeline for many families, President Boakai encouraged continued support from the Diaspora and emphasized that Liberia’s transformation requires the collective commitment of all its citizens.
Meanwhile, President Boakai has announced the inaugural Liberian Diaspora Conference, scheduled to take place in Washington, D.C., in April 2025.
The conference aims to unite Liberians, African Americans, and other stakeholders with historical ties to Liberia to discuss the country’s future.
He concluded that Liberians should “Think Liberia, Love Liberia, and Build Liberia.” On a lighter note, he humorously reminded attendees of the unmatched flavor of Liberia’s organic cuisine, a cherished highlight of their visit home.
The farewell ceremony ended with a renewed sense of purpose and commitment, as Diaspora Liberians embraced the President’s call to action to contribute meaningfully to the nation’s transformation.
