The Bong County Detachment of the Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency (LDEA) has arrested, charged, and sent to court suspect Moses P. Kollie for illegal possession a huge quantity of Codeine/Morphine. Suspect Kollie was arrested at the Sanoyea Checkpoint with the drugs while enroute to Monrovia.
Briefing the media on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, Bong County LDEA Deputy Commander, S/A Lewis N. Geelar said Kollie is one of the few suspects who has been arrested since he took over as Deputy Commander for the county.
The Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency Bong County detachment placed the street value of the drug at US$7,017.55 which is equivalent to L$ 1,333,714.54
Deputy Commander Geelar further revealed that recently, they arrested 5 drug traffickers with a huge quantity of drugs in the county.
He said the suspects were charged and sent to the 9th Judicial Circuit Court in Bong County, where they are awaiting court trial.
Deputy Commander Lewis N. Geelar highlighted the detrimental impacts of drug trafficking on the younger generation, expressing determination to eliminate the influx of illegal substances in Bong County.
The Deputy Commander further said the LDEA Bong County Detachment will fight to make sure that the county is free from drug traffickers.
He called upon the citizens to collaborate with the LDEA in combating illicit drug merchants by providing crucial information to support the enforcement efforts.
“Our aim is to enhance the agency’s operations by addressing drug-related threats in Bong County and Liberia as a whole,” he added.
He stressed the importance of community cooperation in the fight against drug trafficking, emphasizing the agency’s responsibility to safeguard Liberia’s image and protect its citizens from the perils of drugs.
He further revealed that the mandate of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency is to interdict, disrupt, dismantle, and eliminate all threats posed in Bong County and Liberia at large by illicit drug trafficking and abuse.
But, he said they cannot succeed in the fight to eliminate illicit drugs in Liberia if citizens are not willing to cooperate with the agency.
He revealed further that the LDEA will continue to deploy the manpower at their disposal for a complete purge of illicit trafficking in narcotic and other illegal substances in the county.
Meanwhile, suspect Kollie is currently in the custody of the LDEA and being processed for court shortly, according to Deputy Commander Geelar.
Speaking to journalists in the county, suspect Kollie disclosed that the illegal drugs were given to him by one of his friends, whose name he refused to disclose.
The alleged drug trafficker is appealing to the government to pardon him on grounds that he did not know that what given to him by his unidentified friend was a consignment of illegal drugs.
