Last Well To Dedicate Project

By Bill W. Cooper (Cub Reporter)
The LAST WELL, a nonprofit organization is set to eliminate water scarcity and make Liberia the first developing nation in history to benefit from safe drinking water and the gospel by 2020.
The Last Well is a nonprofit organization based in Rockwall, Texas which is committed to providing safe drinking water and the gospel to Liberia. The organization was birthed in 2008 by Christian young adults at a church in Washington D.C. led by Todd Phillips and was later established in Liberia in 2009 and have since provided safe drinking water and preaching the gospel to over nine counties in the country.
Giving the background and summary activities in Liberia during a Legislative Information Sharing and Engagement (LISE) Session in Monrovia, the founder and president of Last Well, Todd Phillips noted that since the founding of the organization in Liberia, they have served over 2.1 one million Liberians in rural communities in the country, adding that they have provided every single human access to safe drinking water within a 15-minute walking distance to their home.
According to Phillips, his organization has more than 20 Liberian based field partners comprised of technical teams that install wells, hand pumps and household filters, as well as local teams that share the Christian message to communities in the country.
“We have been working very hard as a Christian and a faith based organization to bring clean water to every Liberian within a 15-minute walking distance to their home. We have followed the United Nation Sustainable Development Goals (SDG); we abide by that principle. We want Liberia to be the first developing nation to benefit and we are closed to that as Liberia will be the first developing nation to benefit from safe drinking water,” he said.
Phillips added that their vision to eliminate water scarcity and take the Gospel to all Liberians, were inspired by the movie ‘Amazing Grace’ that chronicled the life of William Wilberforce who is credited with the historic feat of ending the slave trade in England, stressing that together, they set out to make their own history and rallied around the cause of providing a nation’s access to safe-drinking water and the good news of Jesus Christ.
He further stated that since the establishment of the project, the organization has provided over 250 permanent jobs as well as over 80,000 lives that have been saved through the provision of safe drinking water.
“The Last Well is funded by a matching donor network, with the majority of monies raised from fundraising efforts in the United States. The monies raised, 100% goes directly to funding field operations in Liberia. By 2020, we will spent over US$31 million,” he clarified.
Meanwhile, Phillips has disclosed that the ground breaking ceremony for company is scheduled for Wednesday, August 7, 2019 in Bentol City, are said to be graced by lawmakers as well as the President George M. Weah.
For his part, the chairman/CEO of National WASH Commission, Bobby Whitfield lauded the Last Well team for the project, adding that since the accession of the country, about 76% of Liberians have getting access to safe drinking water, as the Last Well remains their serious developing partner when it comes to the WASH sector.
