Labor Minister, Cooper W. Kruah, has commenced the reassignment of over fifteen (15) motorcycles to regional labor offices outside Montserrado County.
The bikes were obtained through a project agreement between the Ministry and CETIS/ZIP the company responsible for the issuance of Digital Alien Work Permit for foreign workers seeking employment in Liberia in 2022.
They were withdrawn from their places of assignment during the 2023, presidential and legislative elections to protect them from being used for campaign or other illicit activities.
Speaking during the kickoff of the redeployment exercise of the bikes, Minister Kruah encouraged the Regional Labor Commissioners to use them properly and for the intended the purpose.
He warned that the bikes are only to be used for Labor Ministry operations and that anyone using it for commercial activities will be taken away from them.
He hopes that they will maintain them why the Ministry is looking in the future to assign vehicle to each county and they should appreciate for now the bikes and treat them with care.
“The bikes will be assigned to all of our regional offices for used by the Labor Commissioners and their foot-soldiers, the Labor Inspector. Today, five counties (Gbarpolu, Bomi, Rivercess, Grand Gedeh and River Gee) are taken delivery of theirs and the others will follow soon.”
Taking delivery of the bikes, the Labor Commissioners of Gbapolu, Mr. Jeffery S. Carter, Bomi County, Mr. Jusu Sumo, Grand Gedeh County, Robson B. Barh, Rivercess County, Mr. Cyrus B. Joe, and Mr. Thomas Z. Barley of River-Gee County, in separate remarks thanked Minister Kruah for the redeployment of the motorcycles, saying it will greatly enhance their work, especially as it relates to enforcement and ensuring compliance to the labor law of Liberia.
They recounted the difficulties being faced by them in regulating and inspecting workplaces and working conditions of workers in their counties of assignment.
