The Ministry Of Labour sub office in Sanniquellie has fined Afcon US$ 1 million for employing foreigners illegally.
Labour’s Deputy Commissioner Sam Napah said 310 Indian nationals were brought in by Afcon and are said to be working with various companies in Yekepa without working permit.
According to Napah, 310 Indian nationals have been working in Yekepa for long period of time along with other nationals without working permit
Napah further accused Arcelormittal of sub-contracting those companies that bring in the foreigners and aliens to work saying, “The Ministry was able to generate over US$ 2 million from the county from various companies operating in Yekepa and other parts of the county.”
“We are making sure that every foreign nationality working within the country obtain a work,” Napah asserted.
This is the second arrest of Indian for work permit in less than five months in the county.
During the beginning of April 2024, LIS border patrol arrested a Lebanese working at jungle group of investment in Ganta working without documents and turned over to the LIS’ Professional Division for investigation but were allegedly released by Col. Robert Gibson without investigation.
