L.L.A, Land Actors Discuss Modes Of Coordination

The Liberia Land Authority (LLA) and several Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) have been discussing on how to enhance coordination within the land sector.
The LLA has observed that since the passage of the Land Rights Law in 2018, there is a proliferation of land stakeholders including Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) that are passionate in the implementation of the Land Rights Law and other land-related projects but their activities need to be coordinated to avoid duplication.
In spite of the advocacy and awareness being created on key provisions of the Land Rights Law, especially customary and women land rights, the issue of coordination among the various actors is inadequate.
Speaking during a one-day meeting held at a local hotel in Monrovia, LLA Commissioner for Land Use and Management, Ellen Pratt said the meeting was timely and urged actors in the land sector to make best use of the scarce resources available in an effective and efficient manner.
She commended the CSOs and donor partners for the level of support being provided to the land sector but said much needs to be desired as the LLA endeavors into the full implementation of the land Rights Law.
Also speaking, the Executive Director of the LLA, Mr. Stanley N. Toe, said the key objective of the meeting was to discuss and get the views of partners and implementing organizations in the land sector on the various instruments, such as templates for reporting and project briefs that the LLA has developed to keep track of their activities.
Mr. Toe said the LLA has developed a list of priority regulations, guidelines and other guiding tools that are required to enable Land Actors implement key provisions in the LRA, including those time bound requirements of the law.
Representatives of CSOs, Liberia Land Administration Project being supported by the World Bank and the Swedish Mapping, Cadastral Survey and Land Registration Authority (Lantmäteriet) provided brief updates of their programs, coverage areas and activities and reaffirmed their willingness to collaborate with the LLA to ensue effective coordination in the land sector.
The LLA will develop a mapping scheme to track the geographic areas where CSOs and other land actors are intervening in order to avoid duplication of efforts.
