Cassell Anthony Kuoh was a happy man on Sunday evening, after watching his club, FC Kallon-Liberia, pin LISCR FC 1-0 to keep their hopes alive in the top tier of Liberian football. Striker, Mark Yallah, rose to the occasion in the 38th minute after Emmanuel Bunipele was fouled in the danger area – netting the vital goal from the penalty spot.
The crucial win moved FC Kallon-Liberia four points within the safety zone with six games left to end the 2023/2024 league season. The club’s next fixture is against another title contender, Paynesville FC, at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex Practice Pitch on March 10, 2024.
Kuoh, who’s a household name when it comes to Liberian football, has vowed to ensure that FC Kallon-Liberia, formerly Muscat FC, maintain their place in the LFA First Division next season. The FC Kallon-Liberia president and CEO announced his return to Liberian football by paying the players and members of the technical staff two months’ salary arrears owed them prior to his takeover of the club on February 25, 2024.
As part of Kuoh’s motivation strategy to escape relegation, the players received new pairs of boots, and a win bonus of 20 United States Dollars for every victory. Kuoh has promised to purchase a brand-new bus to ease the club’s transportation constraints to commute the team to match venues and training sessions.
Coach Emmanuel Kaykay said, camping his players prior to the league match with LISCR on Sunday, was a boost for the technical staff.
“You can see the changes for yourself since Cassell arrived at the Club. We now have more players showing up regularly for traveling and camping the players before our league games is really helping the team,” Kaykay said.
He added, “I think he has made our task much easier. The players are motivated and putting in their all – like you saw against LISCR today.”
“We have six games left and our next match will be against Paynesville FC at the SKD Practice Pitch on Sunday,” Coach Kaykay concluded in a tone of relief.
FC Kallon-Liberia, to be named FC Fassell next season, suffered a 4-0 defeat to Bea Mountain in Kuoh’s first match as new owner, but the vital win against the defending champions has rejuvenated the team’s confidence to keep their place in the top flight.
