Several residents of Kpoe Town in Bong County’s District 4 have accused the past and current governments of paying blind eyes towards their children’s education in the area.
The residents said the only public elementary school in Panta District, has been lying in ruins, as the building is no longer accessible to students.
Kpoe Town is situated in Panta with a population of approximately 150 school-going kids.
Speaking to journalists on July 24, 2024, in the District, Jonathan George, the spokesperson of the aggrieved residents said, since the school broke down years ago, residents of the town are finding it difficult to rebuild the school due to the lack of finances and materials support.
“If nothing is done to curtail this growing embarrassment, school going kids might not be in school for the next academic years, because the school building has fallen,” Mr. George stressed.
The citizens, meanwhile used the medium to call on the Ministry of Education through the Bong County School System and humanitarian to come to the aid of the school.
He said kids and youths in the town are in dying need of quality education; as such the Ministry of Education (MOE) should urgently intervene in the re-construction of the school in order to create a conducive atmosphere for learning.
Mr. George alleged that death ears have been given to the school re-building process by authority of Panta District which is serving as a major setback for young people of the town and school going kids.
He is therefore calling on authority of Bong County, the Liberian Government through the ministry of Education and goodwill institutions to help the people of Kpoe to re-build their only elementary school.
He said if nothing is done to remedy the situation,it may affect the educational future of the younger children in Kpoe Town, Panta District, Bong County.
He said financial and materials support are need at the moment.
Meanwhile, Panta and Zota District 4 are represented by Representative Robert Flomo Womba at the Liberia Legislature.
