Vice president Jeremiah Koung has emphasized the pivotal role of the Judiciary in navigating the challenges posed by the new information age in a compelling address at the 2024 Annual African Regional Group Conference in Monrovia.
Under the theme: “The Judiciary in Contemporary Times: Dispensing Justice in the New Information Age,” VP Koung also underscored the critical need for equitable justice delivery amidst the digital revolution sweeping across the African continent.
Acknowledging the transformative power of technology, Koung highlighted the rapid dissemination of information and the emergence of digital platforms as catalysts for societal change.
He stressed that in this era of interconnectedness, the judiciary shoulders the responsibility of upholding the rule of law and ensuring accountability to the citizens, and thereby urged judges to uphold fairness and impartiality in their dispensation of justice.
Addressing a diverse audience, including esteemed members of the judiciary, legal professionals, and representatives from the media, the VP further emphasized the significance of an independent judiciary in safeguarding rights and fostering stability, and the integral role of judges in maintaining societal harmony.
Drawing attention to Liberia’s commitment to the rule of law, Vice president Koung reiterated the government’s dedication to supporting the judiciary in promoting equitable justice delivery for all Liberians.
He highlighted the “ARREST Agenda,” a governance framework championed by President Joseph N. Boakai, which prioritizes the implementation of the rule of law as a cornerstone of governance.
Koung then expressed his optimism for the fruitful deliberations of the conference, anticipating the exchange of experiences and the sharing of best practices in adapting judicial systems to the demands of the digital age.
Meanwhile, the conference, organized by the National Association of Trial Judges of Liberia, promises to be a platform for stimulating discussions on the evolving role of the judiciary in contemporary society.
