The Government and people of Korea have handed over 10 new Hyundai SUV vehicles to the Liberian Government, in demonstration of both countries’ international cooperation and support.
The generous gesture, according to Foreign Minister, Dee-Maxwell Kemayah, and Korean Ambassador to Liberia, Kim Young-Chea, highlights the strong diplomatic ties between the two nations and underscores Korea’s commitment to assisting Liberia in their development efforts.
The handover ceremony took place yesterday, November 22, 2023, at the Foreign Ministry in Monrovia, with key representatives from both countries in attendance, exemplifying the importance of collaboration and tangible aid in fostering progress and prosperity.
These vehicles, a diverse fleet of modern and reliable comfortable options, will undoubtedly contribute to enhancing various sectors within Liberia, serving as a valuable asset for Liberia’s government, aiding in administrative functions, public service, and efficient transportation of officials.
Turning over the vehicles, Kim Young-Chea said his government’s decision to donate these vehicles showcases their recognition of the challenges faced by Liberia and their commitment to supporting sustainable solutions.
This he stressed, that by providing crucial resources such as these vehicles, they empower Liberian institutions to better serve their citizens and accelerate progress in key areas like governance, healthcare, and infrastructure development.
According to him, the newly acquired vehicles, following appeals from the Liberian Foreign Minister, will undoubtedly bolster Liberia’s Deputy and Assistant Ministers’ transportation capabilities.
Receiving the vehicles, Foreign Minister Dee-Maxwell Kemayah thanked the Korean government for the vehicles, which, he said, serve as a symbolic gesture, strengthening the long-standing friendship between Korea and Liberia.
Minister Kemayah, at the same time, disclosed, “None of these vehicles will be used in this CDC-led government. We are keeping them to turn them over to the new government and they will decide what to do with them.”
According to him, the donation of the vehicles further echoes Korea’s recognition of Liberia’s journey towards stability and development, since the end of the civil war in 2003.
This, the Liberian Foreign Minister asserted, “This act of solidarity not only fosters bilateral relations, but also encourages other nations to support Liberia’s ongoing efforts to build a prosperous future.”
“It is also crucial to acknowledge the Korean Government’s commitment to sustainable development, because these vehicles are undoubtedly designed with environmental considerations in mind, incorporating advanced technology to minimize carbon emissions and promote clean energy solutions,” he added.
