Koon’s Leadership Prepares To Undo Koffa’s Leadership Approvals …Resolves To Withdraw All Representatives From ECOWAS

The House of Representatives has initiated the recall of all lawmakers assigned to the ECOWAS Parliament, citing procedural irregularities in their selection.
During the 8th sitting of its second session, the plenary ruled to withdraw Bong County District 6 Representative Moima Briggs Mensah, Nimba County District 9 Representative Taa Wongbe, and Montserrado County District 6 Representative Rev. Samuel Enders from the regional legislative body.
This decision was prompted by a formal request from Representatives Johnson Williams and James Kolleh, who argued that the appointments were unilaterally made by Speaker Fonati Koffa without plenary’s approval.
They further claimed that the selections failed to reflect proper political representation and violated ECOWAS’ protocols.
In separate communications to the plenary, Williams and Kolleh detailed their objections, emphasizing the lack of transparency and consultations in the appointment process.
“The lawmakers representing us at the ECOWAS Parliament were selected without plenary approval. This process did not ensure equal political representation and directly contravenes ECOWAS’ protocols,” their letter stated.
They also warned that failing to address the issue could undermine the legitimacy of the country’s representation in the regional body.
“If this is not corrected, any actions taken by these representatives at the ECOWAS Parliament could be deemed ultra vires,” Kolleh added.
Concerns over ECOWAS’ representation were also a key issue in the recent push to remove Speaker Koffa, further highlighting dissatisfaction with his leadership.
Following the recall decision, the plenary announced plans to formally communicate the withdrawal to the ECOWAS Parliament on Tuesday. Lawmakers interested in representing the country at the regional legislature will have the opportunity to apply.
A new election to fill the now-vacant ECOWAS Parliament seats is scheduled for Thursday, February 20.
The process is expected to strictly adhere to ECOWAS protocols and House rules to ensure fairness and inclusivity.
While the recall of Moima Briggs Mensah, Taa Wongbe, and Rev. Samuel Enders has been confirmed, it remains uncertain whether they will seek re-election. With a new selection process underway, lawmakers will likely push for a more transparent and politically balanced approach.
