Kemayah Welcomes US New Charge d’Affaires

Liberian Foreign Minister, Dee-Maxwell Saah Kemayah, has welcomed the newly accredited Charge d’Affaires of the United States of America, Catherine Rodriguez, to the Republic of Liberia, on behalf of President George Manneh Weah and the Government and people of Liberia.

Minister Kemayah hailed the Government and People of the United States of America for the bilateral assistance the US continues to render Liberia and its people.      

Welcoming the new US Charge d’Affaires at the Ministry, Foreign Minister Kemayah, on behalf of the President, Government and People of Liberia, thanked the Government and the People of the US, through its Charge d’Affaires, for the bilateral supports.Kemayah made these remarks on Tuesday, August 22, 2023, when Rodriguez paid a courtesy call on him at the Foreign Ministry.    

The Liberian Chief Diplomat, who spoke on behalf of his Government at the meeting, said President George Manneh Weah sincerely extends gratitude to Madam Catherine Rodriguez and wished her a successful tour of duty in Liberia, saying, “Liberia recognizes the traditional role the US played in the crisis and the stability of Liberia, as well as the sustenance of peace and harmony in the sub region.

In furtherance of the bilateral relations subsisting between the two countries, both Rodriguez and Kemayah held talks for nearly an hour on bilateral, multilateral, and global issues aimed at further strengthening the longstanding traditional relations between the United States of America and Liberia, as well as consolidating the cooperation and partnership between the two countries at the level of the United Nations and other international bodies.

The two officials particularly discussed on multilateral and global issues, including human rights, terrorism, climate change, democracy, corruption, and good governance, among others.  

They further discussed the pending October 10, 2023 Presidential and Legislative Elections.

During the meeting, Minister Kemayah reaffirmed the unwavering commitment of President Weah and the Government of Liberia to ensuring the conduct of a free, fair, transparent, peaceful, inclusive, and credible general and Presidential elections in Liberia on October 10, 2023. 

The Dean of the Cabinet then assured the American Charge d’Affaires of his Ministry’s willingness to assist the American Envoy in making her tour of duty in Liberia fruitful and rewarding.         

Madam Rodriguez and Kemayah also committed to closely working together for the realization of the shared values and principles of the United States of America and the Republic of Liberia, for the mutual benefits of the two countries, governments and peoples, and moreover to continue contributing to making the world a better place.

For her part, Rodriguez praised the Liberian Foreign Minister for the warm reception accorded her.

Madam Rodriguez also assured Liberia of her country’s determination to strengthen the bilateral ties and cooperation with Liberia, in many areas of trade and other relevant sectors.
