Jonathan Freeman Wins Top Scorer Awards At Nat’l Playoff

Discoveries Sports Academy captain Jonathan Freeman has made history as the first player in the Johnsonville Sub-committee league to be named the highest goal scorer in the regional playoff. 

The goal puncher who won the top scorer award in both the Johnsonville Sub-committee league and the Montserrado third division playoff received the regional playoff top scorer award on Sunday. 

Freeman scored 12 goals in 7 matches in the regional playoff to win the accolade. 

He chopped 45, 000 LD which was provided by Story to Glory as the cash prize for the top scorer award in the regional playoff. 

The Liberia Under-17 forward had a great season with his side Discoveries SA, helping them to win the regional playoff.

Discoveries Football Club however won the regional playoff with a score line of 2-1 over Mighty Enforcers FC of Nimba County in the grand final of the regional playoff Sunday June 11, 2023 at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium. 

Players Of Discoveries SA recognized with individual awards at Regional Playoff

Three players from Discoveries SA were recognized for their outstanding performances with individual awards. 

Captain Jonathan Freeman who played every minute of Discoveries SA Successful playoff campaign took home the Golden Boot Award after finishing as the top scorer with 12 goals. 

Freeman made history by becoming the first player from the Johnsonville Sub-committee League to win three top scorer awards in a season. 

He won the subcommittee league top scorer award with 12 goals, Montserrado Third Division Playoff Top Scorer Award with 7 goals, and the Regional Playoff Top Scorer Award with 12 goals. 

While, Midfielder Saah Moses was named Most Valuable Player in the just-ended regional playoff. 

Moses featured consistently throughout the tournament and scored 6 goals to help his side win the league. 

The youngster had outstanding performances from midfield and established himself as one of the club’s best players. 

The team’s young shot-stopper D Elijah Kumeh won the Golden Glove award in the regional playoff following his string of sturdy performances, which help the club win the regional playoff and gain promotion to the Orange Second division. 

Kumeh’s presence has provided DSA with a sense of calm and stability at the back which has helped them a lot. 

The goalkeeper was in tremendous form throughout the tournament and made some stunning saves.

He kept 4 clean clean sheets, as well as conceded 3 goals in the 7 matches he played in the regional playoff.
