The Joint Security has made significant drug seizures at Bo Waterside Border Point and Roberts International Airport (RIA).
The operations led the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) confiscated 31 kilograms of cannabis kush at Bo Waterside and 10 kilograms of methamphetamine (KUSH) at RIA.
On August 2, 2024, LDEA agents and border security personnel at Bo Waterside intercepted a white mini-bus with Guinean plates, driven by Liberian national, Abass Sannoh.
The vehicle, transporting 31 kilograms of cannabis kush, was seized, with the drugs valued at approximately US$620,000 or LRD 117,800,000.
Sannoh, a resident of Gardnerville, has been charged with transportation and possession of controlled substances under Sections 14.85 and 14.89 of the 2023 drug law, as well as Sections 50.5 and 50.6 of the Penal Code of Liberia.
He has been forwarded to the Tianii Magisterial Court in Grand Cape Mount County for prosecution.
Earlier, on July 24, 2024, LDEA, in collaboration with the Bureau of Customs, seized two boxes of concealed tea leaf substances at RIA.
The boxes, arriving via SN Brussels flight #SN-245 on July 19, 2024, tested positive for methamphetamine (KUSH), Weighing 10 kilograms, the methamphetamine’s street value is estimated at US$200,000 or LRD 38,000,000.
The individuals involved Raymond Kpehe, a clearing agent for United Parcel Services; Michael Brown, the consignee; and Mohammed Nyallay, a Sierra Leonean national have been arrested and charged with importation, transportation, and conspiracy of narcotics.
They face charges under Sections 14.83 and 14.85 of the 2023 drug law, as well as Sections 10.4 and 10.2 of the Penal Code of Liberia. They have been forwarded to the Unification Town Magisterial Court in Margibi County for prosecution.
The combined street value of the drugs seized at RIA and Bo Waterside amounts to US$820,000 or LRD 155,800,000.
The LDEA continues to intensify efforts to combat drug trafficking and enforce narcotic laws across Liberia.
