He said his continuous reluctance to the many attacks on his person and properties from the Weah-led government is not a sign of weakness but a means to avoid violence which he said might hamper the country’s fragile peace and instigate violence.
Sen. Johnson at the same vowed to react to any attempt from the government on any of his properties including his church, stressing, “Though I have no plans of bringing war but if the government attacks me, I will in return attack them as a means of self-defense.”
“So, President Weah, my daughter Jewel and son Koijee, you all have responsibilities like myself to protect this country’s peace and I am begging all of you to ensure that it happens but any attempts again, I will react and defend myself,” he said.
Sen. Johnson has reiterated that he will officially respond to the VP’s recent attack on him at his church next Sunday and assured of the deployment of thousands of his supporters to resist any form of who-be supporters of the government wanting to cause chaos in the name of protest.
Meanwhile, the Christ Chapel of Faith Church of Senator Johnson was on Sunday, May 21, 2023 a scene of panic as a result of a serious protestation from a group claiming to be the youth wing of the National Patriotic Party (NPP).
The situation, according to our reporter which later began tensed also led to the disruption of the church normal activities thereby instilling fear in the surrounding residents and as well as caused the congregational members and other clergy including Sen. Johnson to flee for their lives.
The NPP is a constituent party of the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) that comprises of Congress for Democratic Change and the Liberia People Democratic Party (LPDP) of former House Speaker, Alex Tyler.
However, the party is now currently being headed by Vice President Jewel Howard Taylor with George Mulbah serving as the acting chairperson; though disputed, after the expulsion of its National Chairperson, James Biney.
It all started the early morning hours of Sunday, May 21, during the church’s normal worship service when some members believed to be the “NPP Youth Wing’, dressed in their NPP and CDC regalia, carrying banners and placards and chanting anti-PYJ slogans, stormed the church’s compound and ensured the disruption of the worship service.
During their protestation, the group was also heard chanting war crimes court slogan; something which left Senator Johnson and his wife stranded within for some time in the church’s compound before finding their way out.
According to our reporter, initially Senator Johnson left the pulpit and went out with an attempt to calm the crowd but failed and so he was then asked by the congregation to go back into the service but he refused on grounds that he could not because he never wanted the situation to result into casualty.
According to the group, they had gathered to protest against Senator Johnson’s “planned outburst against Vice President Taylor, as well as his continued misuse of the pulpit to denigrate President Weah and his officials.”
The group explained that gone are those days that the Nimba County Senator who used the church pulpit to spew insults against the CDC led-government and its officials in the name of preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ.
The NPP group added, “Enough is enough and we as supporters of this regime will ensure that the church pulpit will not be used as a platform to attack our leaders anymore. In fact, we will visit his church every Sunday until he resigns as pastor of the church for a real true man of God to take over.”
However, VP Howard-Taylor recently feared that a victory for the Unity Party’s standard bearer Amb. Joseph Nyumah Boakai and his running mate Senator Jeremiah Koung in the October polls might land Senator Johnson the presidency.
VP. Howard-Taylor said it is an open secret that the former Vice President has a fragile health condition, and if elected president, he might die in office. And when that happens, Senator Prince Johnson will run the show, instead of Senator Koung, who is being dubbed as Johnson’s “political godson.”
