Former Liberia Vice President Chief Dr. Jewel Howard-Taylor has descended on Bong County Senator Prince Kermue Moye and the Unity Party-led government of President Joseph Nyumah Boakai.
Madam Taylor stressed that the Unity Party-led government under President Joseph Nyuma Boakai and Jeremiah Kpan Koung, instead of addressing the issue they promised the Liberian people, are now complaining and accusing the past regime of things they said they have solutions to.
The National Patriotic Party political leader reflected on the political narrative constructed by the Unity Party during the 2023 general elections while in opposition.
The Unity Party’s Political Leader, now President Joseph Boakai, promised to provide solutions to the country’s numerous challenges, but since taking office, he has been struggling to fulfill those promises.
The former Liberian Vice President also criticized the Unity Party over the handling of employment, particularly considering their pledge to salary increment of government workers in the country.
She further revealed that the massive dismissal of government workers by the Unity Party government contradicts promises made to the Liberian people during the 2023 general elections.
Former Vice President Jewel Howard-Taylor also expressed disenchantment in the decision of some Church leaders to have crowned Senator Prince Kermue Moye as ” King or Political Godfather” for Bong County.
The tough-talking former Vice President said the county does not need a king but a servant who will serve the people, adding, “When you are the servant and not a king, you listen and serve your people.”
Madam Taylor emphasized the need for equitable distribution of funds across the county, stressing that every district should benefit equally from the financial resources allocated by the government.
Furthermore, she expressed concern over the increasing disrespect among leaders within the county, highlighting the importance of maintaining respect and unity for effective governance.
The former Liberian VP said respect is fundamental to leadership, and it’s on the rise for people to disrespect each other in positions of power.
She said, “We need to focus on building each other up, not tearing each other down.”
Notwithstanding, Madam Taylor also called for greater government support for public institutions rather than private enterprises, suggesting that the state must prioritize the welfare of its citizens by investing in public services.
She pointed out that many Liberians rely on these institutions for essential services, and they should not be overlooked.
Commenting on the political brouhaha at the Liberian parliament, the former Vice President criticized the impasse among lawmakers, calling it a form of disrespect that could have long-term negative effects on the country.
She said the ongoing standoff at the Capitol Building is a form of disrespect not only among lawmakers but to the Liberian people as a whole.
Madam Taylor warned if this continues, it will affect the country’s future and the well-being of all Liberians.
Taylor, at the same time, took pride in her contributions to the development of Bong County, pointing out that during her time as First Lady, Senator, and Vice President, she worked tirelessly to bring progress to the County, pointing out the construction of Clinics, the completion of the Gbarnga broad street, the provision of scholarships to deserving students, among others.
She reaffirmed that her commitment is to ensure that Bong County remains strong, and she plans to continue advocating for its growth and development.
Madam Taylor made the statement on March 28, 2025, in a telephone interview with a local radio station in Gbarnga, Bong County.
