The Head Coach of Discoveries Sports Academy, Akin Z. Baryogar has describe his team qualification to play in the Liberia Football Association National Second Division League as a step along the way in the club’s vision.
Coach Aveiro as he is widely called on the touchline explained that DSA over the years had been preparing to gain the recognition of playing in the top leagues across the country.
Therefore, he said the promotion of Discoveries to second division is not result that he and the team feel complacent about.
According to Coach Aveiro, the team was established in 2017 with a quest to become one of the best grassroots developing academies in the country which they featuring U-12.
The team has breed players up for others clubs. Two of Discoveries then U-17 player namely Saah Moses and Johnathan Freeman have been featured on the Lone Star Youth team both home and away matches.
As a way to achieving said goals, the young soccer gaffer maintained that the youth club have won five titles in six years including the 2020 Heros Cup two third division trophies.
“We are motivated by this promotion but to be honest but we have not reach to the peak that we are looking at. The second division is good and big to play in that we know but or target is the first league,” he said.
The coach also revealed that his side is part of effort to perform in the second division as one of the best clubs will sign new professional players to add to the young team.
He said for the fact some of the player could be sold others will be bought to better up the squad for the 2023/24 league season.
Aveiro explained to reporters at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium last weekend after his team emerged as the champions of the 2023 National Third Division Playoff that was 32 clubs competed.
DSA also dominated the individual award awards collecting accolades of Most Valuable Player to Best Coach. The team’s midfielder Saah Moses won the MVP followed by Captain Johnathan Freeman that netted 12 goals as the highest goal scorer.
Discoveries goalkeeper Elijah Kumeh won the best keepers award after record showed that he played all seven playoff games conceding three goals and keeping 4 clean sheets.
