The coach of the basketball component of the Majestic Sports Association Invincible Eleven, Emmanuel Nimely, launched a call for financial support to the team as it participates in the Liberia National Basketball league.
The coach outlined that the lack of financial support to the team is seriously hampering the performance of the players and the entire Invincible Eleven Basketball family, and he called for swift intervention from fans and authorities.
Recently speaking to reporters after IE lost to the Pythons of the National Port Authority 50-42 points, Coach Nimely attributed some key failures to financial constraint at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex Gymnasium in Paynesville City.
The match was in continuation of the 2024 National Basketball First Division League taking place under the auspices of the Liberia Basketball Association.
He narrated that he has a lot of young players and there is absolutely no money to sign additional players that will help beef up the squad with the ones that are currently featuring for the club.
“I want to bring at least a few old players, but no money; the younger players that we have are not even getting their just benefits. Should we continue begging in the 21st century?” he rhetorically asked with frustration.
Coach Nimely added that it is not yet late for the team, as the players and officials are still hoping to turn things around if swift intervention is made.
For his part, NPA Pythons coach, Raphael Quaye, said, though they managed a win against IE, but the team was not impressive enough to meet the expectation of what they have put in over the period.
“The win was important, but in terms of coordination, more work needs to be done because the team you see here is a combination of 2nd and 1st division players. It will take them time to pick up the rhythm,” Coach Quaye said.
