The Inquirer Newspaper’s News Editor, C. Winnie Saywah-Jimmy, has been re-elected as the vice president of the Female Journalists Association of Liberia (FeJAL).
At its headquarter on Clay Street, the Press Union of Liberia (PUL) on Friday, January 15, announced Madam Saywah-Jimmy, a lone candidate as the vice president-elect, which paves the way for her second term and the completion of the Association’s new leadership.
The PUL was requested by the president-elect, Madam Siatta Scott-Johnson, with consent from FeJAL’s Board to intervene and ensure that the outstanding vice president post of the Association was occupied in order for the leadership to get inducted.
During the general elections in 2019, some members of the FeJAL referring to themselves as ‘Concerned Members’ raised issues of electoral defects against the lone candidate for the vice president post; an allegation that was probed and resolved.
However, the PUL’s vice president, Daniel Nyakonah praised the Union’s auxiliary comprising of only female journalists for voting responsibly without invalid vote and for their general deportment during the election.
Mr. Nyakonah also called on FeJAL’s president-elect, Scott-Johnson, to coordinate efforts in the soonest possible time to ensure that the induction is held so that the Association’s new leadership can begin its activities.
In brief remarks with the veep-elect, Mrs. Saywah-Jimmy thanked her colleagues for showing solidarity through their votes and their overwhelming presence which according her indicates that FeJAL remains united and its members are ready to move forward in achieving its mandate.
Mrs. Saywah-Jimmy however, promised to continue to work assiduously in consultation with her boss and the team to make FeJAL stronger and better for all female journalists in the country.
Madam Saywah-Jimmy is a Liberian journalist with over 20 years of media experience particularly in the print media won FeJAL’s vice president position in 2016 and served her first term with diligence.
She has been assigned at all of the branches of government and couple with her vast knowledge and performance in the newsroom, which has earned her the position of news editor in the institution.
She earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English, Language at the University of Liberia and a diploma in Journalism from the International School of Journalism. She has also shared her expertise with several newsrooms including the Insight Newspaper and the Women Voices Newspaper as well as the Sports Journal of Akosa Ike, where she began her practice in news gathering and reporting.
Madam Saywah-Jimmy has mentored several journalists across the country through FeJAL, PUL and other partner institutions. She once served as chairperson on the PUL Membership Committee.
