The Managing Editor of the Inquirer Newspaper has congratulated Madam Nyonblee Karnga- Lawrence, Jonathan Fonati Koffa, and Thomas Fallah, on their elections as Pro-Tempore of the Liberian Senate, and Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives in the 55th National Legislature respectively, noting that they are called to serve and not be served.
Madam C. Winnie Saywah-Jimmy said, “I extend special congratulatory messages to Madam Karnga-Lawrence, whom I call my sister, Koffa, and Fallah, on their elections as Pro-temp of the Liberian Senate, Speaker, and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives respectively, and assure them of the Inquirer’s unflinching support as they execute the duties and functions of their respective offices.”
Madam Saywah-Jimmy observed that the office of the Pro-temp is one of the toughest offices in the Legislature and a female assuming such post would mean that she would serve both as the mother of the Senate and, at the same time, its leader who will have to keep law and order in that august body.
“I am proud of her as a Liberian woman and I am sure that she will perform with distinction and bring pride to us as Liberians,” Madam Jimmy said.
She said, “I know that the duties of that office are overwhelming, but I am sure that Madam Karnga-Lawrence will come out in flying colors. But even if she does not perform, we are still here to report what we see and know is of interest to the public.”
As for Fonati, the Inquirer boss said, “We will hold him with keen eyes and ears on his words. The first thing I want him to do is to unify the House of Representatives and erase all barriers and ensure that Liberians benefit from their government.”
Madam Jimmy assured the leaders of the Legislature that the Inquirer will maintain its credibility and integrity while covering that body.
“I trust the abilities of Pro-Temp Karnga-Lawrence and Speaker Koffa to bring harmony to the 55th Legislature for the good of the country. But I can assure them that we will not waiver nor sway from following their activities in those offices on how they translate their positions to the good of the Liberian people,” she observed.
