India Gives Funds To Complete Military Hosp. …Donates 50 Vehicles

As part of enhancing the bilateral ties between the Government of India, and the Republic of Liberia, the Indian Government Tuesday donated $2 million United States dollars to the Liberian government with an objective of completing the modern 14 Military Hospital in Liberia. The amount is contained in a Bilateral Agreement signed between the Government of Liberia and the Government of India. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gbarzonhgar Milton Findley, signed for the Liberian government, while the Ambassador of India to Liberia, Amb. SAILAS THANGAL, Indian Ambassador to the Republic of Cote d’ Ivoire, Republic of Guinea, signed for his government.
The 14 Military Hospital currently at roof level is part of President George Manneh’s developmental agenda introduced to give medical relief to the gallant men and women in the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL).
The modern Hospital was named after the President’s jersey number [14] he wore on the National football team of Liberia.
Making the official donation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs fourth floor, Amb. SAILAS THANGAL asserted that the $2million United States dollar Grant is intended to enhance the 14 Ministry Hospital construction.
Amb. Thangal stressed that donation is part of the bilateral relations between the two sisterly governments which he indicated has lasted for decades and promised the Indian government will always help to buttress government’s workings in other sectors of the country.
Ambassador THANGAL also indicated that the Indian government is about to make fulfillment of 50 vehicles his government promised the Liberian government.
The Ambassador further explained that out of the 50 vehicles promised Liberia, the Indian government will give 45 buses and the remaining five vehicles will be Fire trucks to help boost the National Fire Service Agency.
Defense Minister, Daniel Ziankahn appreciated the Indian government for the donation which, according to him, is intended to expedite portion of the Hospital.
He assured Ambassador THANGAL that the funds donated will be used for its planned goal under his watch as Minister of Defense.
In special remarks, Foreign Affairs Minister, Gbarzonhgar Milton Findley, recounted the numerous initiative undertaken by the Indian Government and asked Ambassador THANGAL to extend Liberia’s thanks and appreciations to the loving people of India, and the President of India for her continued support to the people of Liberia, especially the $2m donation. The Foreign Minister also assured that the donation will be used to complete some portion of the Hospital.
Meanwhile, Ambassador THANGAL has reassured Liberians of the government’s commitment to build the Mohamdas Karamchand Gandhi conference in Liberia.
It can be noted that the Indian Government and the Liberian government signed a bilateral agreement worth over $144m to erect a continental conference center to be named after the Indian Legend, “ Mohammed Ghandi Conference Center”
As part of the bilateral agreement, President George Weah last year introduced a bill at the Legislature to name pending Continental Conference Center-which was passed by both houses-now awaiting the Indian government to kick start the project.
But inquiring from the Indian Ambassador about the status of the project during questions and answers session following minutes after donation, he responded as saying, “ my government has committed itself, it will be done, but as Ambassador, I don’t know when it will get started,” he said.
