At least one person has been reported dead and several injured, in an accident involving Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) partisans.
According to information, a moving vehicle ran into several partisans during the CDC’s nationwide coordinated campaign launch last Thursday, September 7, in Fishtown, River Gee County.
The state-owned broadcaster (ELBC) reported that the accident occurred while partisans of the CDC were parading in the street of Fishtown during their party’s formal launch of its campaign, when the vehicle hit dozens, leaving them in critical condition.
It said those injured were admitted to the Fishtown Hospital and other clinics in the capital for treatment, while the corpse of the deceased, identified as Richard Pah, has been deposited in the hospital mortuary.
Police in Fishtown confirmed the accident to the local media, and that they were investigating the cause of the incident.
The Fishtown accident brings to 3, the number of accidents involving followers of the CDC during this campaign period.
In August, 4 members of the “Girls for Weah” team were killed when their vehicle collided with truck at Iron Gate in Gbarnga, Bong County.
Also, on the day of the official campaign launch last Thursday, September 7, another person, believed to be a supporter or follower of the CDC, was killed in a motorbike accident on the Japanese Freeway in Gardnersville.
Though these deaths are not electoral violence-related, they are still a huge loss to the country in these tense times, because those who lost their lives are Liberians, no matter which political party they support or identify with.
