By Solomon T Gaye

A ghastly motor accident in Kpen Township, along the Monrovia Highway, has left three dead and several wounded, after a taxi carrying five passengers collided with a truck.

Speaking to this Paper from the accident scene, Madam Angeline Saye explained that the taxi, which was en route to Monrovia from Ganta, was crashed into by a container truck going in the opposite direction, at about 7:30 pm, leaving many of the passengers aboard the taxi in critical condition.

“The truck driver escaped, we immediately informed the police, and passengers from both vehicles were taken to the hospital in Ganta,” Madam Saye disclosed.

Another eye witness, James Togba, explained that both vehicles were on high speed, which led to the accident.

Other eye witnesses, including the local community members, were seen around the vehicles, under the watchful eyes of private security contractors, to provide security to both vehicles.

One of the security guards explained that the truck was hired from Monrovia to carry materials for ArcellorMittal to Yekepa, prior to the accident with the taxi.

According to the security guard, the driver of the truck escaped the scene, but later reported himself to the police in Bong County.

“He was afraid of being attacked by an angry crowd or relatives of the passengers,” the guard said.

When this Paper contacted Police Chief of Traffic in Ganta, Wilson Nyanamah, he confirmed the death of three passengers aboard of the taxi with two wounded.

The Traffic Police Officer named Comfort Cooper of Gbahn town; James Tugbe of Monrovia; and Isata Mamie Kromah of Gblorplay town, as victims who died in the crash.

“The taxi driver, Cyrus Dolo, is undergoing medical treatment at JFK in Monrovia, while truck driver David Sackie is also undergoing medical treatment, pending investigation into the incident,” Nyanamah disclosed.
