The Benson Street Mosque’s Imam and his congregation have extended their warmest congratulations to President and Vice President-elect, Joseph Boakai and Jeremiah Koung, on their decisive victory in the country’s just ended general elections.
The mosque, situated in the heart of the city, precisely Benson Street, holds a significant role in uniting and guiding its worshippers under the dynamic stewardship of Chief Imam, Mohammed A. Sheriff.
Former Vice president Boakai, contesting on the Unity Party (UP) ticket, won incumbent President George Weah of the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) in a tightly contested run-off election on November 14, 2023.
Following the poll and an atmosphere of jubilation and gratitude, Imam Sheriff, like other Liberians and international partners, wasted no time in expressing his joy and appreciation for the newly elected President’s success.
The Benson Street Mosque Imam further highlighted his dedication to public service and commitment to the nation’s welfare through prayers to Allah, as well as ensure the sustenance and preserving of the country’s fragile peace.
Imam Sheriff, in a statement issued over the weekend, also commended President-elect Boakai’s tireless efforts during his political campaign, urging religious leaders and worshippers to embrace unity and support the incoming administration of Boakai.
He emphasized the importance of preserving peace and harmony within the society, urging all citizens to put aside their political differences now that the election season has concluded.
Imam Sheriff further reminded Liberians of the significance of accepting the will of the people and working collectively towards progress and development, noting that as the sound of the call to prayer resonates from the minaret of the Benson Street Mosque, faith and politics intertwine, signaling the beginning of a new chapter in the nation’s history.
