ICT Executive Director Attends W/Africa IGF Roundtable Session On Online Safety

The West Africa ICT Action Network -Liberia Executive Director, Peterking Quaye, has presented a paper at the West Africa Internet Governance Forum (IGF)roundtable session.
The session was hosted by WAIN focusing on the important topic of “Measuring Trust and Safety Online: An Analysis of Measurement Tests and Tools in Africa.” The event will take place on May 25-2 May, in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.
The West Africa IGF serves as a platform for stakeholders from across the region to discuss and address key issues related to Internet governance.
The West Africa Internet Governance Forum (WAIGF) 2023 will serve as an opportunity to engage with industry experts, policymakers, and other stakeholders in West Africa’s internet ecosystem.
The forum also contributes to shaping the future of the internet in the region, while networking with like-minded professionals.
This year’s event will feature an engaging roundtable session hosted by WAIN led by Mr. Quaye, a renowned expert in the field of ICT and online safety.
During the session, Mr. Quaye delved into the challenges faced in measuring trust and safety online in Africa, highlighting the unique perspectives of the West African region. He shared insights on measurement tests and tools available for assessing trust and safety online, providing practical examples to illustrate their application in an African context.
Mr. Quaye also emphasized the significance of collaborative efforts among stakeholders, including governments, civil society organizations, and technology companies, to foster a secure and reliable digital environment.
Quaye explained, “It is essential that we understand the challenges and explore effective methodologies to ensure the digital landscape in Africa is secure and trustworthy. I look forward to engaging in insightful discussions and collaborating with stakeholders to drive positive change.”
The two-day roundtable session provided an opportunity for participants to gain valuable knowledge and exchange ideas on measuring trust and safety online.
Mr. Quaye had the opportunity to interact with some participants and address questions or concerns.
The West Africa ICT Action Network encourages all stakeholders, including government representatives, industry leaders, civil society organizations, and academia, to join the West Africa IGF and participate in this informative session.
West Africa ICT Action Network -Liberia is a regional platform dedicated to promoting collaboration and knowledge-sharing among stakeholders in West Africa’s ICT sector. WAIN aims to foster digital innovation, policy advocacy, and capacity building to accelerate socio-economic development in the region.
