“I Challenge Dempster Brown” -LPC Boley Rebukes INHCR Chair

By Precious D. Freeman

“I challenge Cllr. Brown and the purveyors of this slanderous and baseless allegation to produce the evidence, or said allegation must be publicly retracted,” these were the words of George Boley in reaction to the Independent National Commission on Human Rights (INHCR) boss.

The former leader of the defunct Liberia Peace Council (LPC), a rebel faction that participated in the Liberian civil war, Boley, has termed as ‘blatant and reckless’ the allegation made against him by Cllr Dempster Brown, Chairman of the INHCR, that he murdered his (Dempster’s) mother during Liberia’s deadly civil conflict.

The LPC is noted for raining terror in the southeast, especially Maryland, Sinoe, and Grand Kru Counties in the 1990s, allegedly killing thousands of people and destroying millions of United States Dollars’ worth of properties.

Reacting to a Cllr Brown’s press conference on March 9, 2024, where expressed he expressed his Commission’s support for the establishment of the War and Economic Crimes Court, pointed out that, “Dr.  George Boley killed my mother. He needs to face the War Crimes Court.”

But, responding to the allegation during a press conference on Monday, March 18, the former LPC leader said Brown is a ‘pathological liar’ and the allegation made against him is entirely untrue.

“Cllr. Dempster Brown as head of the Commission is a national disgrace. He must be removed from this very critical institution for peace and security in Liberia, as well as to maintain the credibility of the Commission,” Boley claimed.

Boley said Cllr. Brown’s allegation against him is reckless, baseless, unfounded, untrue, and irresponsible.

Given the gravity of the allegation, Boley maintained that the onus is on Cllr. Brown to produce the evidence, rather than flirting and grandstanding with the media and bringing to disrepute the integrity and credibility of the Commission in Liberia which he leads.

According to Boley, Cllr. Brown has the authority, by virtue of his position, and the Act which established the Commission to investigate and subpoena anyone known to be in violation of the human rights of another person.

“Dempster Brown’s failure to exercise this awesome power suggests that he is woefully incompetent and has no evidence to support his allegation against me,” Boley said.
