By Precious D Freeman

President and Standard-bearer of the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), George Weah, continued his citizens’ engagement on Friday September 1, 2023, with the people of Grand Bassa county, mainly residents of Districts 1, 2, and 3, encouraging them to reinvest their confidence in him for another term of office, to be able to make the country a better place of peace, socioeconomic vibrancy, and infrastructural development.

During the President’s campaign tour in Grand Bassa the first day, the first stop was in Little Bassa (District 1). The second stop was in Waka Town (District 2), while the third area was in Buchanan City.

The second day was at Wazon, District #4, Grand Bassa County; the President later on ended his campaign engagement in Lac Plantation Compound #4, District #5 in Grand Bassa County.

The President expressed concern about making sure that the Saint John Bridge, which connects Bong and Grand Bassa counties, gains its previous status.

Amongst the twenty presidential candidates in the race for the Executive Mansion, President George Manneh Weah told the citizens that he is the best choice with the most humble heart and track record who knows their plight, who has been there for them, and who has the wherewithal to meet their development needs.

“In 2017, you decided to make me president; I want to thank you for the confidence and trust. Remember, my opponents at the time told you I didn’t have experience to lead. But I want to tell you I have done more than their expectations in your interest so that you have a good future,” he said.

He credited his success in the first term of his presidency to the people of Grand Bassa County, who came out in their numbers almost six years ago to elect him, stressing that “I am doing what I am doing to develop our country.”

In these campaigns, the President advised the people of Grand Bassa to be mindful of those who would tell them otherwise about him.

“Vote for me on October 10 and vote for candidates on the ticket of the CDC so that we continue to drive this country on the plain path of holistic development,” the CDC Standard-Bearer told the cheering crowds.

“I am your father and brother; I lived in the ghettos, I endured hard times just as some of you are doing today. Don’t mind those who will come to deceive you. I am one of you who knows your problems and can solve them for you,” he further asserted.

President Weah also decried what he calls “politics of hate and falsehood.” He claims his opponents are spreading falsehood and described same as baseless and unfounded.

He wants the people of Bassa to vote him for his second term bid, to enable him continue his national developmental agenda, under the (PAPD), to transform Liberia’s image.

Weah is also calling on his supporters and true CDCians, to show love for their party, thereby demonstrating the spirit of vote one, vote all.

President Weah lifted the hands of those on the CDC party ticket in the county, including Mr. Isaac Russ, Representative Candidate of District #1, Madam Mary Kawah of District #2, and Mr. Matthew Joe of District #3.

Speaking further, different speakers, including the first-time voters’ representative, recounted President Weah’s life-changing and impactful development initiatives as sufficient reasons to reelect him.

According to them, President Weah has carried on lots of developments across the county, ranging from the educational sector, including international scholarships, the payment of WASSCE fees, making all public universities and public high schools tuition free, the improvement of the Liberian economy, building of several hospitals , LEC stable electricity, the construction and rehabilitation of road connectivity, the timely payment of civil servants’ salaries, the additional huge employments of nurses and teachers on government payrolls, and increment of medical doctors’ salaries, among others.

At the same time, the people of Electoral District #1, particularly Little Bassa, appealed to President Weah for more road connectivity and expansion, as well as LEC, GSM network connectivity, and hospitals.

They added that the GSM network serves as a major challenge in meeting their basic economic and social needs, in order to enhance their living conditions.

Meanwhile, responding to the Grand Bassa residents’ request, the President promised to make interventions in giving them a better environment, something he said they too deserve as Liberians, despite their distance in location.
