“Historic Seven” LPRC Boss Refers To Retirees

The Liberia Petroleum Refinery Company (LPRC) over the weekend retired seven of its long serving employees, with the Managing Director Marie Urey Coleman referring to the retirees as “the historic seven.”

The seven retirees were: Mr. Mohammed S. Darbla, Mr. Pewee L. Brown, Mr. Lassana F. Donzo, Mr. Marcus N. Nyanford, Mr. Gaye A. Grear, Mr. Anthony J. Sango and Mr. Teah T. Dennis.

She said the occasion was historic as it was the 13th circle of retirement programs the company has had in honor and appreciation of people who have contributed immeasurably to LPRC as well as the country but the first she has been privileged to oversee as MD of LPRC.

The LPRC Boss acknowledged that retirement is a sad thing because the retirees will be leaving behind friends or relationships that they had developed over many years and who in turn will miss them but also noted that it is a good thing as it will afford them opportunity to make new families out there and enjoy life as they still have the strength.

“When we look back on the history of LPRC we find that different people featured in prominent ways at various time; the like of Mr. Cletus Wotorson, Aaron J. Wheagar, Sarlee Sartee among others and Harry Greaves who is remembered as being the person who reorganized and reengineered the LPRC,” she said adding that it is a privilege for her to pay tribute to all former and current staff of LPRC who have contributed to the growth of the company.

“Everyone in this gathering, from the longest serving employee to our newest recruit has contributed to LPRC’s success, but today is dedicated to “The Historic Seven,” Madam Coleman mentioned.

According to her, using your talents and leaving a legacy is something every good person will desire to do, which “The Historic Seven” has already succeeded in achieving by being a part of the team that has driven the company to continue from past MDs with the current rehabilitation and expansion initiative.

She acknowledged that their tireless efforts which steered the company through times of great change; ranging from protecting the plant to human capital to repairing and maintaining the facility to sales and distribution of petroleum products as contribution worthy of recognition and will forever be remembered.

Speaking of the affable working relationship she enjoyed with them she said, “Today LPRC is a better place to be because of our collective efforts, and let me inform you that the strengths you have helped us to pull have laid down the foundation that others after you can face the future with confidence.”

Speaking on behalf of the retirees, Mr. Pewee Brown admonished their fellow employees to keep the torch of exemplary service burning so that the cordial working relationship that they have enjoyed over the years will remain for the growth of the company.

“To my colleagues on the high table, we did our part, we worked hard that is why we have been honored today, and because of our exemplary service we ask you who are remaining to keep the torch as you are the crew to the ship to help the captain, and Madam MD as Captain of the ship you have one of the best crew, you should work together to keep the country going,” he encouraged.

He also urged the MD  maintain the good relationship with the Board of Directors that he referred as the aid to navigation so as to succeed as she sails the ship through turbulent waters of economic challenges.

Mr. Brown assured that even though they were leaving but not leaving the Refinery entirely but will be available any time to offer their expertise and technical know-how wherever when appropriate for the growth of LPRC and the country at large.

As part of the program few others were honored in recognition of their distinguished services performed over the years and they were: Adolf Weah, Contractor of the year; Jugbeh Walters, Employee of the year; and Patrick Kanna, Assistant Manager of the year.
