Help Little Christina Sumowar Undertake Open Heart Surgery

A parent of Little Christina Sumowar, 6, who is suffering from a condition of heart defects and needs urgent attention has been recommended to receive an open heart surgery at the Lisie Hospital in India.Esther Fallah, a mother of two children, who informed this paper that her daughter’s condition is worsening, is appealing to anyone of goodwill to assist her to have her daughter travel abroad to seek this lifesaving medical attention at this specialized health facility which is recorded for performing such surgery on several Liberian children and to date they are all successful and doing well.
The mother of Little Christina said she has been suffering from this heart defects since her birth though she has been receiving treatment from the Pediatric Department of the John F. Kennedy Medical Center since she was three months old. She added that it was in January, 2020 that the doctor gave up on her daughter’s condition thus recommending her for an advanced treatment.
Mother Fallah, who is a water vendor, accompanied her daughter to the offices of this institution yesterday and revealed her child’s medical documents which stated clearly that the patient was among several other children who were being treated at the JFK Medical Center and were awaiting lifesaving heart surgery that cannot be performed in Liberia.
According to the medical explanation, Christina was among some children who were accepted to have their cardiac surgery done at the Lisie Hospital which generously offered to cover accommodation and transport within India while the hospital in Liberia along with the families of the patients have to raise the costs for the surgery, airfare and the visas.
The breakdown for each of those children that were accepted by the Lisie Hospital in India along with their mothers include US$ 3, 000 for surgery, airfare of US$ 1, 500 per person and US$ 165 per person for visa which will bring to total an amount of US$ 6, 125 while the child and their mother could travel along with a medical doctor if required.
Meanwhile, in the communication for her financial assistance written by the Chief Medical Officer of the JFK Medical Center, Dr. Sia Wata Camanor, a copy which this paper possesses states in conclusion, “I humbly appeal to you on behalf of Christina Sumowar and her family for your assistance that can accelerate this lifesaving process that has been delayed due to financial restraints.”
Madam Fallah said this appeal goes to First Lady Clar Weah and the Vice President Jewel Howard Taylor who are all mothers to assist her with this child’s medical treatment as well as President George Weah and all other philanthropists (foreign or national) because she is unable to raise such amount and cried that she has been warned of losing her daughter if nothing is done up to March, next month as her condition is seriously deteriorating.
