The Organization For Mental Health Promotion (OMEHPRO) placing priority on mental health with a motto that says, “Sound Mind, Healthy Society” is committed to ensuring that mental health becomes a priority in Liberia and beyond.
After many years of work in Ganta and other parts of Nimba, OMEHPRO said it is fully prepared to positively affect other parts of Liberia and elsewhere.
On August 17, 2022, the organization honored an invitation by the Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) Department, Ministry of Health Liberia through its Ambassador, Dr. Evelyn Kandakai to make a presentation on its mental health initiative in Ganta and to show the relationship between mental and NTDs.
After a brief deliberation of the magnificent mental health Initiative the team is undertaking in that part of Liberia, the organization further presented on evidential slides with titled “Exploring the Intersection between Mental Illness and Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs).”
The conference panelists buttressing at the discussions were, the Coordinator of Onchocerciasis, Sonnie Z. Gbewo; the Coordinator, Lassa Fever (LF), Abraham W. Nyenswah; the Coordinator, Schisto and STI, Anthony Bettee; the Coordinator of Case Management, Emerson Roger and the Program Manager/Director, Karsor K. Kollie.
Others were Dr. Aaron Kollie, and a veteran Americo-Liberian Medical Doctor practicing in the United States Dr. Albert White while the OMEHPRO team was represented by Mark Sando, the Youth Coordinator, and the CEO, Aaron Fansieh-Debah.
The partners were impressed of OMEHPRO’s Innovative work and the passion the team carries in advocating for persons with mental conditions and other co-morbidities in Liberia and beyond.
The organization stood in the gap for all patients with Neglected Tropical Diseases and related conditions stressing the need to integrate mental health in the treatment process.
Mainstreaming mental health in NTDs intervention is paramount and it may enhance better coping mechanism for individuals affected with NTDs and other related conditions.
OMEHPRO thanked its partners for the confidence reposed in it as an emerging voice for mental health in Liberia and hopes to positively impact the nation in the area of mental health.
The organization further expressed gratitude to the Community of Ganta, partners and other supporters of its work.
