Heads To Roll At Education, MCSS –For Recent Students Protest

By Alex Yomah

In an effort to curtail the unabated protests under the CDC-led government,   President George Weah has expressed serious concern and called for an immediate investigation into the recent violent protest which led students of the Monrovia Consolidated School System (MCSS go rampage.

Speaking during  the Executive Mansion regular Tuesday  Press briefing  at  the Foreign  Affairs, Deputy Presidential Press Secretary,  Smith Toby noted that the President is  concerned about the number  of protests in the country particularly  the situation  involving  students of the MCSS- in which the Liberian leader said, they exposed  the kids to  perils.

He said government   has commissioned    an investigative panel to probe MCSS

and Education authorities to establish what led to the    breach in communication and the subsequent protestation.

He said prior to the protest, authorities from the Ministry of Education met MCSS authorities following reports of protest aimed at precluding it. In the meeting, government assured the aggrieved Teachers Association to pay their delayed salaries within a week.

According to the Executive Mansion,   there was a breach in communication resulting to students taking rampage to protest against their own government.

Some senior officials of government   have posted on the official social media pages to indicate that the students’ protest was organized by elements   at the Ministry of Education and the MCSSS aimed at   undermining   the CDC-led government.

They have however,  urged  President  George  Weah  to  dismiss  anyone that  will be  culpable in the pending  investigation.

It can be recalled;   students of the MCSS staged what was termed as a violent protest on Capitol Hill in Monrovia to demand the Liberian Government to pay their teachers three months salaries owed by government.

The protesting students claimed that their teachers took a go-slow action on a day they were writing tests, a decision that prompted   the protest actions which later termed violent.

In a related development, Mr. Toby also noted that the 14 Military Hospital  currently under construction  is  done and will be officially dedicated during  next Armed Forces Day  celebration in Liberia.

The Liberian leader, addressing   the gallant men and women of the Armed Forces  when he took office , promised  to erect a  modern  Hospital  named and styled “ 14 Military Hospital” name after his number he wore on the  National Team.

“ It will be ready  for operation and fully equipped for only the army  and other Liberians  who will seek medical attention there,”          Mr. Toby averred.

As part of ongoing development, the Executive Mansion disclosed  , clearing  has begun  at the Armed Forces  of  Liberia  Schefflin facility, in Lower  Margibi County  for the  construction of  200 housing Units.
