The Guinean Joint Security assigned at the main border in Ganta in Bain-Garr District has reopened their borders with Liberia in Nimba County, Liberia Joint Security disclosed.
The Joint Security told this paper that the Guinean Joint Security reopened their borders to allow trades and free movement between the two countries.
According to the Joint Security, Guinean Security has dropped the chain on the Guinean side of the border to allow the free movement for travelers and the business community to enter the country at usual to carry out their normal businesses.
The Government of Guinea closed borders with Liberia in March 2020 during the outbreak of the deadly Corona virus in Africa and the World at large.
Guinea shares a common border with Liberia in Ganta, Yekepa which serves as a gateway to the Liberian economy in terms of Revenue generation for the government of Liberia.
Since the closure of the borders by the government of Liberia and the government of Guinea to prevent the spread of the deadly Corona virus, illegal border trades between the two countries had been the order of the day and a common practice, thereby creating serious concern among the citizens in the county.
In March 2020, the government of Guinea closed borders with Liberia in Ganta, Yekepa and immediately deployed soldiers at the two border-crossing points in Ganta, Yekepa to prevent cargo trucks, used car dealers and commercial vehicles from entering both sides of the countries.
Despite report that the government of Guinea has reopened borders with Liberia, the Joint Security assigned at the main border in Ganta, says borders with Guinea remain closed until central government releases order to reopen borders with Guinea in Ganta, Yekepa in Nimba County.
When contacted, the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS) Commander Yei Dolopaye via mobile phone in Nimba confirmed report of the reopening of all borders with Liberia by the Guinean government to allow the free movement and trades between the ECOWAS States.
The LIS ‘Boss Lady’ added that Guinea has reopened all border-crossing points with Liberia but borders remain closed on the Liberian side with immediate effect until government releases order to reopen.
