Gov’t To Pay US$5.5M To Property Owners …To Construct Overhead Bridges

Government has agreed to pay US$5.5 million to owners of structures having completed the costing of valuation in the vicinities of the Ministerial Complex in Congo Town and the Samuel Kanyon Doe Boulevard Junction.
It said the money is secured for the relocation of the affected residents whose houses are to be demolished to make way for the construction of inter-change bridges which is on course.
Public Works Minister, Mobutu Nyanpan, told the media recently that those projects will begin during the dry season, but for now property owners and the Ministry of Public Works, are engaging each other in terms of verification.
He said the house owners in the two locations must make available their legal documents (deeds) to substantiate their claims because some of the properties are already situated within alleys.
“Being that those projects will start in the dry season, we were able to complete the costing and government is ready to pay US$5.5 Million to the property owners. Because the Chinese are coming with the final design of the construction of those bridges,” Nyanpan noted.
He assured owners of properties in those affected areas that they would get the fair value which will enable them resettle to another better place. All of these were done following the assessment of these properties.
However, the Minister fell short to disclose the cost of the two overhead bridges and that of the duration in terms of the construction work when started.
On the slow pace of other projects, Nyanpan said not much work can be done during the course of rainy season coupled with the fact that road constructions are very exorbitant, and as a result, some of the projects in the Capitol have been stalled for now.
However, he continued: “Ganta to Tappita Highway corridor pavement would start during the course of next year’s dry season; notwithstanding, the procurement process of materials is ongoing.”
Nevertheless, Nyanpan went further that asphalt pavement on said corridor is ongoing for easy access of vehicles during this rainy season. In the same token, Ganta to Yekepa Road pavement is in progress.
On the repair of potholes on the streets in Monrovia and its environs, Nyenpan noted that all of these have been stalled for now.
He advanced further that whatever they are doing in terms of road construction is in consistent with international standard.
With that, Nyenpan stated that the National Road Fund (NRF) is active therefore funds from there would be used for the construction of roads in Gbarpolu, Sinoe and Grand Kru Counties; writes throble kaffa suah.
