Gov’t To Evacuate Liberians From Lebanon

The Government of Liberia, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Liberia Refugee Repatriation and Resettlement Commission (LRRRC), in collaboration with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and other UN agencies, is actively coordinating an emergency evacuation of Liberians residing in Lebanon, particularly in Beirut, due to the escalating conflict involving Israel and Hezbollah.
The ongoing hostilities present a significant risk to the safety of our citizens in Lebanon.
The disclosure was made at the Ministry of Information regular press briefing on October 8. Deputy Minister Daniel Sando disclosed that the Government urges all Liberians with relatives or friends currently in Lebanon to provide their names, contact information, and current locations to the Legal Section of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“This information is critical for us to accurately track and prioritize individuals for evacuation”, he stated.
Given the urgency of the situation, “We implore citizens to respond swiftly, as the window for organizing this operation is limited. While we are currently working with an estimated figure of 50 Liberians, we acknowledge that additional Liberians in Lebanon may not yet be on our profiling and registration lists,”
he added.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Information is encouraging all Liberian citizens to remain calm and patient as the government is working to ensure the safe evacuation of all affected individuals, whether to a third country or back to Liberia.
