Gov’t Signs MoU With Sierra Leone To Support MCSS

The Government of Liberia through the Monrovia Consolidated School System (MCSS) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Sierra Leonian Government to support the MCSS with capacity building and the Student Exchange program.
Superintendent Momoh who departed the country for a five-day working visit to Freetown, Sierra Leone, has returned to the country with tangibles from his mission..
Speaking with Journalists yesterday in Monrovia, Superintendent James Momoh disclosed that the MCSS has signed a MoU with the Sharda University and the Sierra Leonian Education Stakeholders, on behalf of their government to support the MCSS.
According to the MCSS boss, every year, the MCSS will send at least five teachers to Sharda University to study so that when they return, they will be able to effectively pass on to their students the content knowledge and pedagogical skills required for effective teaching.
He added that the essence of what is taught is to be transmitted into students’ success and impressive grades.
The MCSS Superintendent however met with the Liberian Ambassador accredited to Sierra Leone, who arranged several meetings for him with other major education stakeholders of that country and they discussed the possibility of how their government assisting the MCSS in the area of capacity building.
He discussed with the administrators of those institutions the possibility of how they can also assist the MCSS with some science teachers to train MCSS lab technicians as he explored their laboratory facilities.
Superintendent Momoh noted that his vision is to bridge the gap between high school and college education.
He stressed that most of the students who are graduating from high school nowadays aren’t adequately prepared for college education.
Meanwhile, Superintendent Momoh also met and held bilateral discussions with the Minister of Employment, Labour, and Social Security, Mohammed Rahman Swaray, the Deputy Director of Technical and High Education for the Western Region, Hon. Idrissa Sannoh, including the Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education, Hon. Conrade O. Sackie, the Director of Technical and Vocational Education (TVET), Hon. Abdul A.S. Senessie, as well as the Chief Technical and Higher Education Officer, Dr. Josephus Brimah.
At the same time, Superintendent Momoh noted that the MCSS schools are in deplorable conditions and are therefore calling on the government and its partners to assist the school system.
He indicated that the MCSS budget is 4.2 million, of which 3.9 million is salary. He stressed that the balance of 300,000 for goods and services is inadequate to run 25 schools, including the Central Office.
