The Liberian government has initiated a comprehensive renovation of the Youth Agriculture Training Center (YATC) in Bensonville, aiming to transform it into a modern facility dedicated to rehabilitating at-risk youth through technical and vocational education.
Established in 1978 in partnership with the Federal Republic of Germany, the YATC originally focused on providing agricultural training to rural youth to curb rural-to-urban migration. The current renovations, fully funded by the government and overseen by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, are set to equip marginalized young Liberians with essential skills for sustainable livelihoods.
Over the Weekend, Youth and Sports Minister, Jeror Cole Bangalu, accompanied by Deputy and Assistant Ministers for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), conducted an on-site inspection of the ongoing renovation work. The team assessed key areas, including the girls’ dormitory, to ensure the project’s alignment with the government’s objectives.
In a statement to the Liberian media, Minister Bangalu emphasized that this initiative reflects President Boakai’s commitment to empowering the nation’s future leaders and striving toward a drug-free Liberia.
“This renovation is a priority for President Boakai, reflecting his dedication to transforming the future leaders of our country and making Liberia a drug-free nation,” Minister Bangalu stated.
The revitalization of the YATC is a pivotal component of Liberia’s broader strategy to combat drug abuse and provide at-risk youth with opportunities for personal development and societal reintegration according to the ministry.
