The administration of the Bong Mine Hospital in Fuamah District, Bong County, has constructed and dedicated a government-funded hand pump in the area.
The Medical Director of the government-run hospital, Dr. Alexander Tokpa, speaking to reporter following the dedication of the hand pump, said the project is one of many funded by the Bong County Authority through the County Development Fund (CDF).
According to him, the hospital received US$20,000 from the CDF through the elder council of the district following a presentation that was made on behalf of the hospital.
Dr. Tokpa explained that portion of the money will be used to renovate the hospital and recondition some areas including the emergency room, bathrooms, delivery room and the neonatal intensive care room.
He narrated that the money is given to the institution to make positive impact in the lives of the people in the county adding that once it is received, it has to be used to do tangible things that will benefit the people.
Dr. Tokpa noted that it is from this backdrop that the hospital administration is implementing the different projects in the area.
He stated that the hand pump was built for sanitation purpose because water is needed to prevent the spread of infection as it is used for cleaning and different other reasons.
The medical director maintained that the previous pump that was at the facility got damaged and as such there was a need to have another one constructed to serve the people of the district.
He said prior to the construction of the hand pump, nurses and janitors at the facility were covering miles just to fetch water and it was tedious for them stating, ‘the construction of the hand pump is a huge relief.’
Director Tokpa expressed excitement that one of the projects is being completed especially the hand pump which is a major source of water for the hospital.
He indicated that the hand pump will not only benefit the facility, but residents of the surrounding communities will also benefit from the hospital because according to him, they go to the facility to fetch water for their daily activities.
The Bong Mine Hospital boss then lauded the Representative of the District, Foday Fahnbulleh, for his endless support to the hospital.
Director Tokpa revealed that it was through the instrumentality of the Representative that US$ 20,000 was allocated to the hospital.
He added that through the advocacy of the lawmaker, some US$30,000 were allocated in the recast budget for the hospital.
Lastly, the medical director said Rep. Fahnbulleh has been sponsoring free surgical operation and at the same time supporting the hospital’s medical outreach in the district.
