Gov’t Drops Charges Against Crane Currency

Government of Liberia has dropped all the charges and dismissed the indictment levied against Crane Currency, the printer of the mysteriously missing monies, who was indicted along with some ex-officials of the Central Bank of Liberia.
The movant filed an application before the court on January 10, dismissing the indictment brought against Crane Currency or Crane AB SE 1478, Tumba Sweden.
According to Criminal ‘C’ Judge, Nancy Sammy, the movant being the Republic of Liberia, indicted the respondent and that it is the same movant who filed a motion to dismiss its own indictment in keeping with Section 18.1 of the Criminal Procedure Law which states, “That the prosecuting attorney may, by leave of court, file or dismiss an indictment or complaint or a count contained therein, as per either all or some of the defendants.”
“The court has not acquired jurisdiction over Crane Currency in whose favor the motion to nulle prose quoi has been filed by the movant. In keeping with the law homage with age in our jurisdiction, in criminal cases, the court can only acquire jurisdiction by the service of writ of arrest on the defendant or defendants notwithstanding, since the movant requested the court to drop charges against the respondent on grounds that it does not intend to prosecute the despondent, the motion is hereby granted,” the court ruled.
It can be recalled that on June 14, 2019, the respondent along with other co- defendants, Milton Weeks, Charles Sirleaf, Dorbor Hagba, Richard Walker Joseph Dennis and Crane Currency were indicted for the crimes of Economic Sabotage, Criminal Conspiracy, Criminal Solicitation and Money Laundering, and on August 19, 2019, a Writ of Arrest was issued.
