Liberian People’s Party (LPP’s) standard bearer Tiawan Saye Gongloe is expected to unveil his deputy this Saturday, June 8 in Gbarnga, Bong County.
He is Emmanuel Urey Yarkpawolo, a resident of Electoral District 4, Bong County, and president of the Salvation Army Polytechnic in Monrovia.
Yarkpawolo’s nomination is expected to ease pressure or speculation on Gongloe and his LPP following months of search and consultations with partisans and supporters in and outside of the country.
LPP’s sources told this paper that the process was vigorous having listed several prominent figures in the country but amongst them, Yarkpawolo emerged the chosen one after being defeated by Moima Briggs Mensah, Representative of District 4, Bong County during the October 2017 polls.
That constituency covers nine communities of Zota District including Gbansue Sulonmah, Shamkpallai, Belefana, Jarkai, Nyansue, Gbansue, Pelelei, Farvey and Yowee as well as three communities of Sanoyea District which are Gou, Laryea and Gbonota.
So far among the opposition political parties, the Unity Party (UP), the Collaborating Political Parties (CPP), the Liberian National Union (LINU) and the Movement for Progressive Change (MPC) have all announced their running mates.
Meanwhile, Grand Bassa County’s District 1 has endorsed the presidential bid of Tiawan Saye Gongloe in the upcoming October presidential and legislative polls.
The ceremony was held at German Camp or Camp Mechlin in Compound 1 when residents of the town and surrounding villages did the endorsement early this week during an elaborate program.
In a related development, LPP and the people of German Camp in Compound 1 in Grand Bassa County have also endorsed the Presidential and representative bids of Gongloe and Michael Blojay Draper respectively.
The LPP’s candidate is reportedly among eight others from various political parties who vying for the district seat which is presently occupied by Representative Hans Bachue, who entered the Legislature on the ticket of Musa Bility’s Liberty Party (LP).
Meanwhile, in an updated version in the ongoing candidate nomination exercise nationwide, 3, 336 packages have been collected with independent aspirants picking up 225 while political parties have taken 2, 970 packages so far from the Commission.
NEC said each of the political party was issued package for 73 aspirants in four categories; 73 for Representative seats, 15 Senate seats, one for Vice President and one for President.
It stated, among many things, that 27 independent aspirants including 22 males and five females have collected nomination packages while 63 political parties that include 57 males and six females have also collected packages stating the total number of packages returned amount to 90.
